What inspires you most about working in Chicago’s design community?
“Chicago shaped who I am as a designer and leader. I can’t imagine life without this city. It has taught me to think boldly yet stay grounded, and to foster meaningful relationships—because in many ways, Chicago is both a big city and a small town. As we launch our new office, I’m excited to grow a team that reflects Chicago’s vibrant spirit, creativity, and connection—and to expand our footprint in this magnificent city.”
Ann Marie Krol – Senior Associate, Design Director
What inspires you most about working in Chicago’s design community?
“Chicago has always been an integral part of my design journey. As a young designer starting out, the Merchandise Mart showrooms and the rep community had a profound impact on shaping who I am today. Each NeoCon brought a sense of anticipation—new colors, patterns, products, and, of course, some great parties.
What I’ve always loved most is the supportive, collaborative, and generous nature of the Chicago design and rep community. Relationships evolve into friendships, and mentoring one another is an integral part of who we are. I’m excited to carry that spirit forward as we grow our Chicago studio.”*

What inspires you most about working in Chicago’s design community, and how does the city influence your perspective?
“Chicago’s legacy of resilience and reinvention inspires me every day. From rebuilding after the Great Fire to its strong industrial roots, this city has always created with purpose, and that mindset shapes how I approach design: thoughtful, sustainable, and made to last. I’m reminded of this balance between grit and beauty in places like the South Garden at the Art Institute, where the city’s energy gives way to a quiet respite for reflection and recharge. With that perspective in mind, I’m excited to help our Chicago studio grow into a space where curiosity leads, people feel supported, and great design can truly flourish.”
Chicago is a city of bold ideas, strong connections, and thoughtful design and we can’t wait to grow alongside it. Stay tuned as our Chicago studio continues to bring Vocon’s creativity, collaboration, and expertise to the city.
