FirstEnergy.

Akron, Ohio

Project Overview.

Located on a 5 ½ acre parcel, FirstEnergy’s 206,000 SF, West Akron Campus is comprised of three individual buildings connected by a “central hub” building. This project allowed for the relocation and consolidation of nearly 700 employees from various locations. Vocon worked with FirstEnergy to provide a comfortable work environment with ample space for collaboration, amenities to increase productivity with a high degree of flexibility.

The “central hub” provides much of the support necessary for the office functions within each of the three buildings.  The first floor operates as the main entry to the campus and houses the main security desk, a 100 person café, full service kitchen and the receiving and loading dock area.  The central hub’s second floor contains four divisible, multi-purpose conference rooms, two informal conference areas and a fitness center, complete with locker rooms and a yoga studio.

Design features and technology utilized serve to conserve materials and promote energy efficiency while creating a healthy workplace and sustainable campus land use.  The project was also the first large-scale sustainable office building in the Akron area constructed to LEED NC v2.2 specifications, achieving Gold Certification.
