Pittsburgh TV station WPXI's headquarters encompass' 17 acres and 70,000 square feet of the latest technology and a progressive work environment. Built from the ground up, the project - on which Vocon collaborated with Dallas-based Rees Architects - includes a full digital HD studio, open-plan news room and administrative offices. Unique features of the building include a raised access floor in the studio to accommodate wiring, cables and underfloor air flow; high-efficiency lighting and HVAC systems; a high-capacity back-up generator in case the facility should ever lose power. The site also required wetland mitigation before construction could begin.
